Election: Brent Booker
Aug 22, 2012

LIUNA Construction Department Director Brent Booker Elected Secretary-Treasurer of the National BCTD

Brent Booker, Director of the LIUNA Construction Department, has been elected Secretary-Treasurer of the National Building and Construction Trades Department, General President Terry O’Sullivan announced.

The BCTD’s Governing Board of Presidents voted unanimously to select Booker for the position. He fills the office vacated by Sean McGarvey, who was elected President upon the death of Mark Ayers.

“Brent is a third generation Laborer whose dedication, commitment and hard work has helped make our International Union a leader in the construction trades and the entire union movement,” O’Sullivan said. “His strong and steady relationship-building with the contractor community served our union well. He will be sorely missed, but we are all proud and honored by the confidence placed in him by construction trades leaders.”

Booker was hired as an International Representative and assigned to the Construction Department in 2001. In addition to rising to Director in 2007, he has served on the LIUNA Pipeline Contractor’s Association Labor Negotiating Committee and the LIUNA Distribution Contractor’s Association Labor Negotiating Committee. He has served as President of the National Maintenance Agreement Policy Committee, Inc. and Chairman of the NMAPC’s Labor Section. Booker successfully negotiated a new NMA which was implemented this year. He also successfully negotiated a Project Labor Agreement with TransCanada Corp. for the construction of the Keystone XL Pipeline.

“Brent will be a great asset to the Building Trades and we look forward to continuing our relationship with him in that capacity,” O’Sullivan said.

The General President also announced that Construction Department Assistant Director Greg Davis will assume the position of Director. Davis has worked in the construction industry and served in the U.S. Army. In 1992, he was hired by LIUNA to help form the International’s Organizing Department. He transferred to the Construction Department in 1996 and was named Assistant Director in 2001.

“Greg has the experience and understanding to build on Brent’s foundation and lead this crucial department forward,” O’Sullivan said. “LIUNA leaders throughout the union are familiar with Greg’s abilities when it comes to the Construction Department’s work, from jurisdictional, contractual and Davis-Bacon issues to managing service contracts. I am confident he will work every day to lead a department on behalf of the hard-working men and women of LIUNA.”
